ROHÁČE (WESTERN TATRAS)
The Roháče provide excellent conditions for hiking. It is possible to go on undemanding walks through valleys (one of the most beautiful hikes leads around the Roháče mountain lakes) as well as difficult mountain ridge hikes in the most beautiful part of the Tatras. The main departure points are Zverovka lodge (Zuberec) or Oravice.
OBLAZY WATERMILLS – KVAČIANSKA VALLEY
Oblazy can be found in the charming Kvačianska Valley. This cultural sight is one of Slovakia’s treasures and is a favourite destination for visitors of all ages. The watermills are part of the educational trail of Prosiecka and Kvačianska Valleys. From the mills you can continue along Kvačianska Valley to Kvačany or along Borovianka Valley to Veľké Borové. Alternatively you can continue at the direction of Huty and the Western Tatras.
HAVRÁNOK ARCHEOLOGICAL OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
Visit the reconstructed part of a Celtic settlement of the Gotini tribe from the 1st century A.D. The archaeological site is located on the Úložisko hill near Liptovská Mara reservoir.
ORAVA CASTLE
Orava Castle is one of the most beautiful Slovak castles, situated in the village of Oravský Podzámok and towering atop a steep limestone rock 112 m over the surface of the Orava river. It is a dominant feature of the Orava region and is one of the most important examples of castle construction in Slovakia. This appealing castle is accessed by three gates with a tunnel, under which there are underground corridors that can also be visited. Visitors enjoy the haunting evening visits and various drama performances. Orava Museum resides in the castle, it houses archaeological, natural scientific, ethnographic and historical expositions.
ORAVA VILLAGE MUSEUM
The museum is situated in a spectacular mountainous setting under the Roháče. Originally there were no houses at the museum’s site. In 1967 houses from various Orava villages were transported to the site forming a museum. More than 50 folk architecture houses are grouped in several units, which evoke the individual parts of Orava. The museum also houses various technical constructions such as a mill, oil workshop and others. There is also a wooden Gothic church dedicated to St. Elizabeth of Hungary from the beginning of the 15th century. In the houses you can see original ethnographic displays and folk crafts demonstrations.
FRANTIŠEK’S SMELTER
František’s smelter (locally known as the Hammer) is a Slovak technical monument, since 2009 belonging to Nižná, 2km from the village of Podbiel. It is the ruin of a factory hall of a former iron plant built in 1836. What remains are the outside walls and the central blast furnace. You can walk there or use a bus. Night events such as the New Year’s Eve Night at the Hummer are unique experiences. Each year at the end of August there are demonstrations of iron smelting using traditional methods.
THERMAL ORAVICE
lies 10 km away from our guest house. Thermal Oravice is situated in Orava – Western Tatras region, close to the border with Poland, a couple of kilometres from Zakopane. Geothermal water with health benefits springs to the surface from a depth of 1611m at a temperature of 58°C, and fills all the pools at the Thermal Oravice, which occupies 1,545m2. The thermal water has a high mineral content of sodium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur and iron. The direct access between the building and the pools enables bathing in all weather and seasons.
The pools are open year round.
There are changing rooms, restaurants, a snack bar, a café, an outdoor café, a big sport-relaxation pool, big and small relaxation pools, a cooling pool and a massage room. The pools are equipped with water features such as artificial waves, a swimming part, whirlpool seats, whirlpool benches, a geyser, a water mushroom, gargoyles and massage panels. The thermal park is equipped with deckchairs. At the entrance you will get a wrist band with a chip which records the refreshments you consumed and also serves for opening and closing of lockers. You will only need cash when you are leaving and can pay for everything at once. Come relax, amuse yourselves and recharge your batteries in our pools.
